MORSE CODE CLASS UNDER WAY :

Beginning Monday, September 29, 2003 at 7:00 pm (and again on each Monday, Wednesday and Friday thereafter) the GAARC repeater will be used for a 'morse code training class'.  W4VFA (Frank Putnam, Shelby, NC) will be the instructor.  Frank will be teaching and sending code over the repeater, while participants can study from their own shacks or together in a group if they so chose.  The repeater has a three (3) minute time-out timer...should it go down, please be patient as it will automatically come back up and the class can continue.

A registration and check-in will be done on 9-29 to better serve the participants and taylor the class to meet the needs of all.  You may pre-register by email to KG4LVV (John McGinnis) "kg4lvv@hotmail.com" or print the registration form and mail to John at 9136 Dixie River Road, Charlotte, NC  28278.

The class is open to ALL hams (or want-to-be's) who are interested in learning morse code from a 'morse code pro'.

Approval by the GAARC Club was unanimous on Thursday, October 2, 2003.  The repeater will be used on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7:00 pm.  Plans also include a 'code testing session' when the class is finished for those of you needing credit for 5 WPM.

Based on a club vote on June 5, 2003 we will begin leaving the 100 Hz. tone continuously due to the fact of 'interference'.  Please advise any user or potential user that they will need to encode the 100 hz. tone for repeater usage.  We will be looking at other identifiers to help with any potential problem in the future.  (Please be on the lookout for the source of the malicious interference!!!)

The club also voted to have the Motorola back up repeater made operational.  This will take a while to complete at which time we plan to locate this new unit on the Bessemer City site.

    Repeater update:

Re: PL Tone....100 hz tone is now being left ON all the time.  Please encode this tone into your radio(s) and simply leave it on.  If the tone is ever turned OFF you will still be able to get in without any problem.

The signed agreement with Bessemer City is finalized.

    Til later. 73's. KD4TLC (Glenn)
